The Arabic coin collection of the National Museum of China comprises 281 pieces: 43 gold coins , 98 silver coins and 140 bronze coins. These specimens are from different Islamic regions and were struck in different periods. Chronologically, they date from the 7th to the 17th century and geographically they cover a vast area from Syria to Central Asia, from Iraq to India, and from Crimea to Iran. The present article discusses the numismatic significance of selected specimens in different metals from a historical and cultural perspective.
